Give Feedback, track progress, report out: Communication has been one of the trickier aspects of SBL for me, in some ways. Over the past few years, I have been altering my written feedback to students to be more targeted--making specific comments about skills that need to be improved, as well as areas of success. Students have responded well to this. They appreciate knowing exactly what is expected of them, and what they need to do to achieve their goals. I have grown accustomed to separating content from skills in commenting and reporting, and I am able to keep track of student progress in Formal Standards-based grade reporting. however, reporting this information to students and parents has been slow so far. I look forward to settling into jumprope this year, and developing a reliable, consistent form of reporting that will be useful to students, parents and me.
